Italy claimed gold in the mixed team diving event at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, scoring 410.60 points to finish ahead of Russia and Ukraine. The Italian squad of Sarah Jodoin Di Maria, Chiara Pellacani, Matteo Santoro and Raffaele Pelligra topped the podium while Russian athletes, competing as neutrals without their national flag, took silver with 385.80 points and Ukraine earned bronze on 368.20.
The championships, running from July 31 to August 16 at the Olympic Aquatic Center, have drawn divers from across the continent. Austria entered Anton Knoll, Dariush Lotfi and Nikolaj Schaller across four events, with the team focusing on Olympic disciplines after earning gold and bronze medals at the past two European championships.
Schaller, returning from a hiatus for his comeback at these championships, failed to reach the 1-metre springboard final on Saturday. He scored 300.30 points in the preliminary round, placing 18th and falling well short of the top-12 cutoff.
