Owen Ansah won bronze in the men's 100 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Tuesday, finishing third in 10.19 seconds to claim Germany's first medal in the event at the European Championships in 40 years. Britain's Romell Glave took gold in 10.09 seconds and Jeremiah Azu silver in 10.16, while Italy's Marcell Jacobs was injured during the final and the Netherlands' Elvis Afrifa finished fourth in 10.22.
The result came as the National Anti-Doping Agency Germany proposed a four-year ban against Ansah for allegedly refusing a doping test on 9 July, seeking to nullify all results from that date onward. Ansah, who is not currently suspended, denies refusing the test, saying he was heading to a flight and had recently used the toilet. He contends he was not informed of the consequences of declining, a claim NADA disputes.
