Switzerland's Simon Ehammer leapt 8.29 metres to claim the long jump silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, finishing behind Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou, who took gold with a mark of 8.44 metres. Bulgaria's Saraboyukov missed the bronze by just three centimetres. The event followed Mattia Furlani's withdrawal after a recurring hamstring injury.
In the high jump, Belgium's Thomas Carmoy qualified for the final with a third-attempt clearance of 2.23 metres, finishing 10th in qualifying. The 26-year-old's return to a European final came after right ankle surgery on 22 May. Compatriot Jef Vermeiren was eliminated after clearing only 2.10 metres for 23rd place.
Meanwhile, Belgium's Julien Watrin advanced to the 400m hurdles semi-finals with a time of 49.24 seconds, posting the fifth-fastest time across the heats.
