A sword-wielding attacker killed one person and wounded three others at a secondary school in Fagersta, central Sweden, on Friday before police shot him in the leg and took him into custody.
Officers responding to a call shortly after 14:00 local time found the body of a 17-year-old girl inside Brinellskolan, a school of roughly 500 students. Three boys aged 12 to 17 were also injured, two of them seriously. The suspect, an 18-year-old former pupil with a prior assault conviction, was linked to two local addresses that police later searched. Investigators are examining a TikTok account for possible ties to the attack, with prosecutor Ann-Sofie Trossing leading the inquiry.
Regional authorities declared a state of emergency, and nearby schools kept students indoors. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed condolences to those affected.
