A person armed with a sword entered a school in Fagersta, Sweden, and injured several people in an attack that prompted a major police response and lockdowns across the municipality. Police and emergency services were dispatched to Brinellskolan shortly after 14:00 on Thursday.
The municipality confirmed that an assailant carrying a sword breached the school and harmed multiple victims. Officers on the scene took the attacker into custody and swept the building. Eight schools and public facilities in Fagersta were placed on lockdown, with students sheltering in place.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer said in a written statement that he had been informed of a "serious incident" in Fagersta. Authorities have not released details on the number or condition of the injured.
