Newcastle United have effectively confirmed Bruno Guimaraes' departure to Arsenal, with the midfielder having bid a tearful farewell to team-mates at the club's pre-season camp in Spain, after the sides agreed a £75 million fee.
Sporting director Ross Wilson said the club did not plan to sell their captain, but the 28-year-old was "very emotional" in requesting a move to the Premier League champions. Chief executive David Hopkinson noted Newcastle would have preferred an even higher fee, though the club stated the sum ranks among the top-10 highest ever received for a player aged 28 or over.
The exit caps a summer in which Newcastle have sold more than £240m worth of talent, following the departures of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and manager Eddie Howe. Guimaraes, who captained the side to League Cup glory in 2025, leaves with 31 goals in 195 appearances since his 2022 arrival from Lyon.
