Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for £75 million, as manager Mikel Arteta moves to reinforce his squad after last season's Premier League title win.
The 28-year-old Brazilian, who will undergo a medical this week, becomes Arsenal's third signing of the summer window. Guimaraes scored nine league goals for Newcastle last season and ranked among the Premier League's top five for defensive line-breaking passes. Newcastle were left perplexed by the manner of Arsenal's pursuit, having already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to other clubs.
Arsenal, who reached the Champions League final last season before losing to Paris St-Germain, are also expected to pursue Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, according to members of the squad, though analysts have expressed scepticism about a move for the player valued at £128 million.
