Mudryk returns for Chelsea after 20-month absence in Hong Kong friendly

Mykhailo Mudryk made his first appearance for Chelsea in nearly two years, coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute in Wednesday's 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat by Juventus in Hong Kong.

The winger was cleared to return last week after resolving his case with the Football Association over an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium. He had not played a competitive match since November 2024, during which time he maintained fitness through private coaching sessions and a summer training camp in Austria. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso indicated 90 minutes might be too early for his return, and Mudryk replaced Nicolas Jackson late in the match before a crowd of 43,575 at Kai Tak Sports Park.

Edon Zhegrova's 68th-minute strike secured the win for Juventus. Chelsea have reportedly received loan approaches from three clubs for Mudryk, who remains under contract until 2031. The squad next faces Milan in Jakarta on Saturday.
