Torrential monsoon rains and flash floods have killed at least 23 people and injured 55 across Pakistan's Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir provinces, authorities said, with eight deaths and 14 injuries reported in Punjab alone on July 22. In Gujranwala, six people — mostly children — died, while a house collapse in Pakpattan killed two children and injured their mother, and a factory roof collapse in Lahore wounded four workers.
The National Disaster Management Authority has recorded 72 deaths and 187 injuries nationwide since the monsoon season began on June 26. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the hardest hit, with 41 fatalities, followed by Punjab with 19. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed or damaged, and nearly 200 livestock have perished.
Earlier this week, nine people were killed as flash floods hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 20, as rain-related incidents claimed at least nine lives across the country in a 24-hour period.
