At least 12 people have been killed and dozens remain missing after rain-triggered disasters swept across Vietnam and China on July 17.
In Vietnam, a flash flood in Muong Than village, Lai Chau province, left at least four dead and four missing, with seven others injured. More than 238 hectares of farmland have been damaged across four northern mountainous provinces since heavy rains began on July 15. Around 500 rescuers have been deployed to search for the missing and evacuate at-risk areas, with up to 250 mm of additional rainfall warned for July 18.
In China, a landslide in Pengshui county, Chongqing, killed eight people and left 34 missing, after more than 1,100 residents were relocated from the surrounding area. China's National Development and Reform Commission has allocated 30 million yuan for infrastructure restoration.
