Monsoon-triggered floods and landslides killed at least 19 people across India's Himalayan regions on Sunday, expanding a deadly weather system that has already swept through parts of Asia this week.
In Jammu and Kashmir, at least 11 people died as torrential rains battered the disputed territory, where rescue workers pulled 11 survivors, including five children, from the debris. India's meteorological department has warned of extremely heavy downpours in the region over the coming days. In the northeastern state of Nagaland, eight people were killed and 15 injured when a landslide struck the Mon district.
Authorities have suspended the annual Amarnath Hindu pilgrimage in Kashmir due to the severe weather. The deaths follow rain-triggered disasters that swept across Vietnam and China earlier this week.
