At least 20 people have been killed and more than 80 injured in flash flooding across Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province, the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority confirmed. The agency said it has recovered 20 bodies from the disaster zone, with more than 100 people still missing.
In Parun, the provincial capital, 105 people including the mayor were listed as missing. The floodwaters devastated the municipality, destroying hotels and dozens of shops, the agency said, noting the disaster had caused severe financial and human losses. Casualties were also reported in other areas of the province beyond the capital.
Rescue and recovery efforts are underway across the affected areas as authorities continue to search for the missing.
