A man in his 40s has died after sustaining severe burns in an explosion at a private residence in Lillesand, southern Norway, on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were dispatched shortly after 4 p.m. local time following a report from a neighbour. The victim was airlifted to Haukeland University Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead by medical staff. His next of kin have been notified.
The blast is believed to have occurred during private work involving tools, police said. Life-saving first aid was administered at the scene before the air ambulance arrived. Police attorney Johan Martin Kile said there was no indication that others were involved in the incident. No neighbours were evacuated and authorities confirmed there was no risk of further explosions. Several witnesses present at the scene were due to be questioned by police.
