Florian Lipowitz abandoned the Tour de France on Tuesday after crashing heavily into a barrier during a high-speed right-hand turn in the stage 16 individual time trial. The German rider, who started the day fifth overall and held a promising split time, was evacuated on a stretcher with a shoulder injury. Lipowitz finished third at the 2025 Tour.
Remco Evenepoel won the 26.1-kilometre time trial from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains in 32 minutes 19 seconds, finishing 28 seconds clear of Tadej Pogacar and 1:04 ahead of Mattias Skjelmose. Evenepoel remains second in the general classification, 4:32 behind Pogacar.
The race has seen multiple top contenders exit following Jonas Vingegaard's withdrawal on 19 July after a crash. The Red Bull squad underwent doping controls between 10 and 11 p.m. on Monday evening.
