U.S. envoy Jared Kushner met Sunday in Egypt with a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, alongside mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey and Board of Peace envoys Nickolay Mladenov and Tony Blair, in a push to advance the second phase of the U.S.-backed Gaza peace plan.
During the talks, al-Hayya reaffirmed Hamas's commitment to completing President Donald Trump's 15-point roadmap, while Kushner insisted on the group's total disarmament and its exclusion from any future Gaza administration. Hamas subsequently said it had asked the Board of Peace to compel Israel to accept the plan and set an implementation timetable. Kushner also met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who stressed the need for all parties to meet their obligations.
Kushner, Mladenov and Blair are scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to press the plan. Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza on Sunday, with wounds reported in Nuseirat.
