A senior Hamas delegation led by political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya met Sunday with Egyptian intelligence head Hassan Rashad in El Alamein, marking al-Hayya's first visit to Egypt since assuming leadership in late July. The talks focused on pressing Israel to accept a 15-point peace roadmap that Hamas endorsed last month, which envisions phased disarmament paired with an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the plan, insisting Israel will not withdraw until Hamas is verifiably disarmed. Hamas officials said they expect mediators to pressure Netanyahu's government to reverse course.
US presidential envoy Jared Kushner is expected to travel to Israel and Egypt in the coming days to advance the negotiations. Several foreign ministers, including from Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, condemned Israel's rejection of the proposal.
