Jürgen Klopp was officially presented as Germany's new head coach at the German Football Association's Frankfurt headquarters on Thursday, following the DFB's move to finalise his appointment. At the unveiling, Klopp issued a blunt warning to journalists, stating he would walk away if the media mistreat him or fail to leave his family alone. He acknowledged taking the role despite having witnessed how the press treated predecessor Julian Nagelsmann.
Klopp also apologised to Nagelsmann for a remark he made during a television broadcast, calling it one of the worst days of his life and expressing full respect for the former manager. Nagelsmann departed after Germany's round-of-16 elimination by Paraguay at the World Cup.
Per Mertesacker was named the national team's new sporting director. Under Klopp, Germany will face Greece in the Nations League on 27 September in Augsburg and 4 October in Thessaloniki.
