German Football Association (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf and vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke have traveled to New York City to negotiate with Jürgen Klopp and his agent Marc Kosicke over the vacant national team head coach position, with Watzke estimating the likelihood of a deal at above 50 percent.
The coaching post opened after Julian Nagelsmann resigned following Germany's World Cup exit against Paraguay. Klopp remains under contract as Red Bull's head of global soccer until 2029, and the DFB is in talks with Red Bull over a potential release fee. Watzke has signaled he expects Klopp to accept reduced terms out of national duty.
DFB sporting director Rudi Völler did not join the delegation but spoke with Klopp by phone on Saturday, where both signaled willingness to work together and Klopp asked Völler to stay on in his role.
