Jurgen Klopp is poised to be named Germany's next head coach, with the German Football Association expected to finalise his appointment and unveil him at its Frankfurt headquarters later this week. Klopp, whose contract is set to run through the 2030 World Cup, succeeds Julian Nagelsmann and brings longtime aides Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders as assistant coaches.
Former Germany international Sven Bender will also join the backroom staff as a further assistant. Bender left his role as head coach of fourth-tier SpVgg Unterhaching in early July after citing differences over the club's sporting direction.
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer called Klopp the ideal candidate for the post. To secure Klopp's release from a Red Bull contract that had bound him until 2029, the DFB will make a compensatory donation to the Red Bull-affiliated Wings for Life foundation.
