German football federation reaches agreement with Klopp to lead national team

The German Football Association (DFB) announced an agreement with Jürgen Klopp to become the next head coach of the national men's team, though the deal awaits approval from Red Bull, his current employer.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke held an in-depth meeting with Klopp in New York on Friday, 10 July. Negotiations are expected to continue next week, with the 59-year-old set to leave his role as Red Bull's global head of football should the move be finalised. Klopp has been under contract with the energy drinks conglomerate since January 2025.

Klopp emerged as the DFB's preferred candidate following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann, who departed after Germany's round-of-32 exit to Paraguay on penalties at the 2026 World Cup last month.
