Hull City stun Manchester United in Premier League return

· Sports GBR

Hull City marked their first Premier League match since 2017 with a shock 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the season opener on Friday at the MKM Stadium. The result ended a league winless run against United stretching back to 1974, defying pre-match expectations of only an 11% chance of winning.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring from a corner, his first Premier League goal since January 2021. Nobel Mendy then doubled the lead on his debut, heading home from a Regan Slater free-kick.

Manchester United, who finished third last season, introduced Marcus Rashford at half-time for his first appearance since December 2024, but the change failed to spark a comeback.
