Marseille rout 10-man Strasbourg 4-0 in Ligue 1 season opener

· Sports FRA

Olympique Marseille opened the 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Strasbourg at the Stade Velodrome on Friday, the first match of the French league's 89th edition.

The hosts broke the deadlock early in the second half through Amine Gouiri, who scored in the 46th and 68th minutes, the second from the penalty spot. Strasbourg's task grew harder when Samir El Mourabet received a straight red card in the 59th minute for a foul on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Substitute Keyliane Abdallah added a third in the 89th minute before Hojbjerg completed the scoring in sixth minute of stoppage time.

The result placed Marseille atop the early standings. Both managers made their competitive debuts — Bruno Génésio for Marseille and Hugo Oliveira, who arrived from Famalicão in July, for Strasbourg. The opening matchday concludes Sunday with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain visiting Rennes.
