PSG open Ligue 1 season away after heatwave destroys Parc des Princes pitch

· Sports FRA

Paris Saint-Germain will open their Ligue 1 campaign on the road after severe heatwave damage to the Parc des Princes pitch forced the postponement of their home fixture against Stade Rennais. The match, originally scheduled for Sunday at 20:45 in Paris, will instead be played at Roazhon Park in Brittany.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel determined the surface could not guarantee player safety and physical integrity following an inspection. PSG alerted the LFP to the deterioration on 17 August, and considered importing turf from the Netherlands before abandoning the plan. Stade Rennais provided guarantees to host the reversed fixture.

PSG has pledged to replace the pitch before their next home game against Monaco on 4 September and will communicate refund details to ticket holders. France experienced record heat in late June, with Paris reaching nearly 41C.
