Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee United in their Scottish Premiership season opener on Friday, extending a run of failing to win their opening match for a fourth consecutive year. The result marked Derek McInnes' first competitive fixture as Rangers manager.
Lachlan Rose gave Dundee United the lead with the first goal of the Premiership season in the 38th minute. Thelo Aasgaard equalised for Rangers in the 56th, and Jesse Randall missed a late chance to win it for the hosts in the 84th. A crowd of 13,465 attended at Tannadice Park.
Ivor Pandur, Ben Godfrey, Cammy Devlin, and Lawrence Shankland all made their Rangers debuts, with Shankland captaining the side for the first time. Godfrey was substituted with a hamstring complaint. Rangers are seeking to add wingers, while Olwethu Makhanya's visa for their Europa League qualifier at Jagiellonia Bialystok remains uncertain.
