Manchester United thumped Rosenborg 5-0 in a pre-season friendly at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim on Thursday, handing Michael Carrick his first victory as the club's permanent head coach.

Shea Lacey opened the scoring before Joshua Zirkzee doubled the lead. Jacob Devaney, Harry Amass and Ethan Williams added the remaining goals to complete a commanding result against the Norwegian side managed by Freyr Alexandersson.

The win marked a swift rebound for United, who had lost their opening pre-season fixture 1-0 to Wrexham. Carrick, a former United midfielder, is overseeing his first pre-season campaign since taking charge on a full-time basis.
