The Danish Meteorological Institute has issued a category 1 warning for heavy rainfall and cloudbursts across southern Jutland, Funen, Zealand, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm through Monday morning, July 27. Accumulations of 5 to 15 millimetres are expected broadly, with up to 50 mm in localised areas, accompanied by possible hail, thunder and strong wind gusts. Duty meteorologist Hans Peter Wandler said a front system south of the country was forecast to push northward over Denmark on Sunday afternoon, with rain arriving first in southern Jutland before moving toward Zealand and Bornholm.
In neighbouring Finland, the start of the week brought thunderstorm-prone conditions to much of the country. Monday's weather front was expected to deliver persistent rain to the west and potentially intense thunderstorms in the east, with temperatures occasionally reaching heatwave marks in North Karelia. Thunderstorm activity was forecast to shift northward into Kainuu by Tuesday before conditions clear by Wednesday.
