European authorities have issued new high-temperature alerts across Romania, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, as dangerous heat persists after earlier reporting detailed billions in damages and widespread wildfires across the continent.
Romania's National Meteorological Administration issued a nationwide heat warning from Monday through Wednesday, with maximum temperatures forecast between 30 and 36 degrees and the heat-humidity index expected to breach the critical 80-unit threshold. Tropical nights will affect western and southern areas, with overnight lows reaching 23 degrees. In the Czech Republic, temperatures are forecast to exceed 32 degrees across most of the country on Monday, reaching up to 36 degrees in lowland areas, while elevated wildfire risk persists across most of the territory. Switzerland's federal government warned of a new heatwave beginning Sunday, with level-3 alerts in place for at least five days and temperatures in Geneva expected to reach 36 degrees by Friday. Large parts of the country face severe to very severe wildfire danger at levels 4 and 5.
