Czech firefighters battled major wildfires across multiple regions on August 4, with a blaze in the forests and fields of Křečovice triggering the highest level of emergency alert. Up to 31 firefighting units responded to the fire, which broke out before 5 p.m. and required crews to protect a local monastery. Four firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, with two taken to hospital in Benešov.
In the Šumava region near Nezdice, approximately 150 firefighters tackled a blaze covering six hectares of forest and meadow under a third-level alert. Authorities also gained control of a large waste fire in Čížkovice, where smoke prompted warnings for residents in seven nearby villages to keep windows closed. A separate landfill fire erupted in the Sokolov district.
The blazes coincided with smog alerts declared across the Ústí and Central Bohemia regions and Prague.
