A roof fire at a three-storey apartment building in Ivančice, near Brno, forced the evacuation of dozens of residents on Sunday, with emergency crews treating 19 people, mostly for smoke inhalation. Ten were transported to hospitals and nine treated at the scene.

Flames broke out around 14:00 local time in a courtyard annexe of the residential building. Firefighters deployed three water streams and had the blaze contained by approximately 15:00, according to fire service spokesperson Filip Venclovský. Around 18 people were handed into the care of paramedics, spokesperson Michaela Bothová said.

Mayor Milan Buček said the town offered alternative accommodation to displaced residents. City authorities warned people against opening windows and advised avoiding Komenského Square due to smoke. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
