French singer Patrick Bruel's travel ban lifted as prosecutors appeal

· Society FRA

A French investigating judge has partially lifted travel restrictions on singer Patrick Bruel, allowing him to leave the country despite ongoing sexual assault allegations. The Nanterre prosecutor's office appealed the July 21 ruling, calling it "unjustified" and "excessive."

The Versailles Court of Appeal heard arguments Friday and will issue its decision September 16. Bruel has been under judicial supervision since June 10 and faces formal investigation in four cases.

At least eight new complaints alleging rape, attempted rape and sexual assault between 1992 and 2014 have been filed. The two most recent were lodged with Paris judicial police on July 16 and 23. Bruel holds assisted witness status in four additional cases.
