France is moving to exempt national team coaches from a new public-sector salary cap as Zinedine Zidane closes in on replacing Didier Deschamps as head coach.
A joint parliamentary committee approved a framework on 8 July capping federation presidents' and national coaches' pay at €450,000 gross annually. However, Sports Minister Marina Ferrari said the upcoming professional sports governance law will allow exceptions to that ceiling, with federations required to seek ministry authorization for salaries exceeding the limit. The bill is expected to pass on 22 July.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that Zidane has signed a contract running through 2030, following Deschamps' departure after a 4-6 loss to England. The French federation president said a successor would be confirmed by the end of July, with Zidane's first match expected away against Turkey on 25 September in the UEFA Nations League.
