Former West Brom midfielder Quevin Castro dies aged 25 during pre-season friendly in Portugal

Quevin Castro, a 25-year-old midfielder, died on Saturday morning after collapsing during a pre-season friendly between his club Real Sport Clube and Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon.

Castro suffered a medical emergency roughly ten minutes into the match and could not be resuscitated. The Lisbon Football Association confirmed his death, which was pronounced en route to the hospital. Castro had joined Real Sport Clube this summer from English side Eastbourne.

Castro spent two years with West Bromwich Albion between 2021 and 2023, making one appearance against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. West Bromwich Albion will honour Castro with a minute of applause in the 25th minute of their Championship match against Burnley on Sunday, with players wearing black armbands.
