South African international footballer Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, shortly after featuring in the 2026 World Cup.
The midfielder played in all three of South Africa's group stage matches at the tournament, facing Mexico, the Czech Republic, and South Korea just weeks before his death. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Adams made nine senior appearances for South Africa and was under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, having risen through the youth ranks at Stellenbosch before moving to the Pretoria-based club last year. He took the pitch against the Czech Republic just one day after his grandmother passed away, a loss that preceded his own by only a few weeks.
