Danish couple stand trial over death of four-month-old son

A 23-year-old Danish man goes on trial Tuesday in Roskilde, charged with killing his four-month-old son in May 2025. The child's mother, also 23, faces an accomplice charge for failing to intervene adequately to stop the abuse.

Prosecutors allege the father subjected the infant to repeated violence beginning in early April 2025, sometimes several times a day. The boy was hospitalised in May with breathing difficulties and bleeding in the brain. He died the day after both parents were remanded in custody, prompting authorities to upgrade the charges from aggravated assault to homicide.

A subsidiary charge of aggravated violence resulting in death has been filed should the court find insufficient grounds for a murder conviction. The mother was released from custody in late July 2025, while the father remains detained. Six court sessions are scheduled at the Roskilde court.
