A German court has sentenced a young couple to life in prison for the murder of their infant daughter, who died of starvation in September 2025, the Itzehoe regional court ruled. Judges found the parents, both 24 at the time, guilty of murder committed alongside severe abuse of a ward, concluding that their gross neglect amounted to a deliberate act.
The baby, born in May 2025, died on 26 September in Brunsbüttel, a town in the northern district of Dithmarschen. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as starvation. The court heard that the parents had missed scheduled paediatric appointments, leaving the child without medical oversight during her short life.
Three ancillary proceedings connected to the case were dropped.
