Colombian authorities have revised the death toll from Monday’s magnitude 7.4 earthquake to 289, lowering earlier estimates as the number of missing was cut to 143 and the confirmed injured stood at 3,937. Rescue teams have pulled 353 survivors from the rubble, though operations are increasingly focused on recovering bodies from collapsed structures, with Cali’s fire chief indicating searches could conclude by Sunday.
The National Disaster Risk Management Unit reported the quake and its aftershocks damaged more than 81,500 homes, destroyed over 14,700, and collapsed 66 buildings across 15 departments and 448 municipalities, affecting nearly 115,500 people. Infrastructure losses include 234 health centres, 2,535 schools, more than 300 roads, and five airports.
Among the dead was Daniela Largo, 32, who was pulled alive from debris in Pereira after 37 hours but died of her injuries on Thursday. More than two-thirds of fatalities were concentrated in Cali and Pereira.
