The death toll from Venezuela's twin earthquakes has climbed to 4,829 as of Tuesday, with more than 20,800 people left homeless and nearly 18,000 still displaced, authorities said, after the toll passed 4,118 last week.
Officials reported 6,462 people rescued since the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 quakes struck on June 24, while the United Nations estimates 50,000 remain missing. More than 20,900 people are sheltering across 107 temporary camps in Caracas and neighbouring states.
The disaster has claimed 117 Portuguese nationals and descendants, with 51 Portuguese citizens still unaccounted for. Countries including the United States, China, Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom have sent aid.
