The death toll from Venezuela's devastating twin earthquakes has climbed to 4,118, with 16,740 injured, according to an official tally released Friday — a grim milestone two and a half weeks after the June 24 quakes struck 200 kilometres from Caracas.
Parliament President Jorge Rodríguez reported 17,907 people remain displaced, with more than 86,000 families receiving aid and over 17,000 sheltered in 89 transit camps. Nearly 200 buildings collapsed and 856 others sustained damage. Among the dead are 107 Portuguese nationals and descendants, with 57 still missing, Portugal's Foreign Ministry said.
Portugal's Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities Emídio Sousa announced TAP Air Portugal will resume flights to Venezuela on July 13, using Valencia's Arturo Michelena Airport. Meanwhile, prosecutors inspected La Esperanza cemetery in La Guaira state, where at least 300 unidentified victims were buried in coded graves. Prosecutor Larry Devoe said operations follow national and international standards for disaster remains management.
