The 23-year-old Spaniard missed the French Open, Wimbledon, and North American hard-court events in Toronto and Cincinnati after initially targeting Cincinnati for his comeback. He has trained in Murcia with Denmark's Holger Rune in recent weeks to test the wrist at higher intensity.
Alcaraz won the Australian Open in January to complete the career Grand Slam. Rival Jannik Sinner, the current world number one who won Wimbledon in July, withdrew from Cincinnati with a knee injury and will arrive in New York with no recent hard-court match play.
