Carlos Alcaraz has entered the Cincinnati Open, signalling a planned return to professional tennis after a wrist injury sidelined him for months. The tournament, running from 13-23 August, would mark his first competitive appearance since April, when he suffered the injury in his opening match at the Barcelona Open. Alcaraz is the reigning champion at both the US Open and Cincinnati.

The absence forced Alcaraz to withdraw from the French Open and Wimbledon, as well as skip Madrid and Rome. He will also miss the Canadian Open in Montreal, which ends just before Cincinnati begins. During his hiatus, Jannik Sinner claimed the Wimbledon title by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final, while Zverev reached world number two after a strong French Open campaign. Alcaraz currently sits third in the world rankings behind Sinner and Zverev.

In other injury news, Emma Raducanu withdrew from Wimbledon due to a stress fracture in her lower leg.
