Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, extending an injury layoff that has kept the world number two off the court since April. The 23-year-old Spaniard is still recovering from a right wrist problem sustained when he retired from the Barcelona Open in the second week of April.
Alcaraz, the defending Cincinnati champion after Jannik Sinner retired from last year's final, had been expected to make his comeback in Ohio before tournament director Bob Moran confirmed his withdrawal. The Masters 1000 event begins on 11 August. Alcaraz has missed the French Open and Wimbledon during his absence.
The focus now shifts to the US Open, which starts in New York on 30 August. Alcaraz remains entered in the tournament, where he is the defending champion.
