FC Barcelona have agreed to loan goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to Ajax Amsterdam until 30 June 2027, the clubs confirmed on Monday. The 34-year-old, who remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028, loses his starting place under coach Hansi Flick and departs after bidding farewell to teammates last Friday.
The move had been delayed by unresolved tax obligations before the deal was finalised. Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff said the goalkeeper joins the squad immediately, where he will play alongside former Germany teammate Julian Brandt, who arrives from Borussia Dortmund. Ter Stegen said the pair aim to bring Ajax back to the top.
Ter Stegen, the second-most capped foreign player in Barcelona history with 423 appearances and 21 titles, was previously loaned to Girona during the winter window, where a thigh injury in just his second match ruled him out of the FIFA World Cup. He now reunites at Ajax with coach Míchel, who also managed him briefly at Girona.
