Aston Villa are in advanced negotiations to sign Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan from Chelsea that would include a conditional obligation to make the move permanent next summer. Chelsea made the winger available for £43 million last month but require a permanent element attached to any departure, and have only held the player since signing him from Manchester United for £40 million last summer.
Garnacho has not returned to pre-season training as he seeks a resolution to his future. The discussions follow Chelsea's agreement of a British-record £117 million fee for Morgan Rogers moving from Villa to Stamford Bridge on Saturday night. Nicolas Jackson, valued at £65 million, was also discussed in a separate potential deal.
Villa's squad overhaul has generated nearly £200 million in outgoing transfers, with Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin all departing the Midlands club this window.
