A 42-year-old Albanian man has been taken into custody at the port of Bari while attempting to board a departing vessel, following the discovery of his partner's body outside a hospital emergency room in southern Italy.

Ornella Forastefano, 46, was found by hospital staff lying outside the Trebisacce emergency department around 3 a.m. on Saturday. She had suffered severe injuries and multiple traumas consistent with a violent beating and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is being held by carabinieri in Bari. Investigators from Cosenza's provincial command, working under the Castrovillari prosecutor's office, are treating the case as homicide. Forastefano was originally from Cassano allo Ionio and was the daughter of a man imprisoned under Italy's strict 41-bis regime.
