Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, holding a closed-door session lasting roughly an hour after earlier rounds of talks with American envoys aimed at reviving stalled diplomacy.
Zelenskyy described the meeting as productive and said the two leaders discussed licensing for Ukraine to produce Patriot air defence interceptors, an offer Trump extended to Kyiv earlier this month. Zelenskyy also met with representatives from Lockheed Martin to discuss joint production and technology transfers related to the Patriot system.
Zelenskyy is also scheduled to address US senators on a bipartisan bill proposing sanctions against Russia, and to attend a memorial ceremony for Senator Lindsey Graham, who died in July at age 71. The visit comes after the United Nations said June was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022.
