Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to travel to the United States on July 28 to meet President Donald Trump in Washington and attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on July 11 from a ruptured aorta.
At a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, Zelensky said trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the United States aimed at ending Russia's invasion should resume by autumn. He spoke by phone on July 22 with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff ahead of the planned visit.
The diplomatic push comes amid continued hostilities. Russia launched a major ballistic missile strike on Kyiv, killing one person and wounding eight. Separately, Mykhailo Drapatyi was appointed as Ukraine's new military commander-in-chief, the European Union agreed on a new sanctions package against Russia, and the IMF approved $690 million in additional aid for Kyiv.
