U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Washington on September 24. Trump announced the upcoming visit during an event at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, noting that the two leaders plan to discuss artificial intelligence. Trump stated that the U.S. is currently leading the global competition against China and other nations in AI development.
The upcoming summit serves as a reciprocal visit following Trump's trip to Beijing in mid-May 2026 to meet with Xi. The two leaders previously held talks during Trump's first term in the White House.
This diplomatic development follows a meeting on Wednesday in Manila, where U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed options for expanded bilateral cooperation.
