Italy will take part in a summit convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio next week to address what Washington describes as a resurgence of far-left transnational terrorism, sending an undersecretary rather than a senior minister to represent the government in Washington.
The gathering has drawn invitations to more than 60 countries, including most European nations, major Latin American states, and several Asian powers such as India, Indonesia, and Singapore. However, short notice and vague terms of the invitation have prompted many governments to limit their attendance to diplomatic-level representation, with Undersecretary Nicola Molteni emerging as Rome's most likely delegate.
The summit follows a recent executive order by President Donald Trump designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, signaling Washington's intent to frame far-left militancy as a cross-border security threat requiring coordinated international response.
