Ukrainian drones struck a Rosneft-owned oil refinery in Syzran in Russia's Samara region, killing one man and wounding three people, including a child, some 800 kilometres from the front line. Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the attack, reporting explosions and fires at the facility, where a key processing unit handling roughly 30 percent of throughput was damaged. The refinery, with an annual capacity of 8.5 million tonnes, had previously halted operations after a strike in late May.
Kyiv is pressing a campaign to disrupt Russian fuel supplies to the southern front. Ukrainian drones hit ten oil tankers and four ferries in the Sea of Azov, part of sustained strikes on Russian shipping that began on July 6. Russia reported downing 349 Ukrainian drones overnight.
The strikes fall under a 40-day operation announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 25, with the Security Service of Ukraine saying it had struck eight major refineries and destroyed or damaged 60 fuel tanks in the first month.
