Widespread fuel shortages have gripped Russia after Ukrainian drone strikes damaged major oil refineries, including a July 6 attack on the country's largest facility in Omsk and a July 2 hit on the NORSI plant's primary refining unit. Kyiv has now targeted all ten of Russia's largest refineries.
The fallout has left over 90% of Russian regions facing shortages since June. In Chita, motorists queue for up to 36 hours, with spots in line selling for 35,000 roubles. Novosibirsk has urged residents to work remotely, while demand for LPG car conversions has surged and bicycle sales jumped 131% in June.
The crisis appears to be eroding public support for the Kremlin. Trust in Vladimir Putin fell to 69% in late June, and 60% of Russians now favour peace negotiations, even as support for the military operation rose to 30%.
